# Max Proactive

**Max Proactive** controls whether Max reaches out unprompted — on which channel, how often, within which hours, and for which events.

These settings govern when Max may act on its own, so they are **read-only** on the Public API. The user changes them in the app. Requires a USER API key.

Today Max reacts to completed meetings that left action items (`MEETING_COMPLETED_WITH_ACTION_ITEMS`). Pre-meeting reminders are a separate feature under [Max Meetings](/docs/concepts/max/meetings) settings.

## Identity

| Field | Type | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `enabled` | boolean | Master toggle. |
| `preferredChannel` | enum | `AUTO` · `WHATSAPP` · `SLACK`. |
| `frequency` | enum | `RELAXED` · `BALANCED` · `ACTIVE`. |
| `deliveryWindowStart` | number | Hour of day (0–23) Max may write from. |
| `deliveryWindowEnd` | number | Hour of day (0–23) Max may write until. |
| `allowWeekends` | boolean | Whether Saturday/Sunday are in scope. |
| `enabledEventTypes` | array | Currently `MEETING_COMPLETED_WITH_ACTION_ITEMS`. |
| `proactiveInstructions` | string | Free-form guidance on what is worth a nudge (max 2000 chars). |
| `lastProactiveContactAt` | string? | When Max last reached out. |

A 404 means the caller's Max profile has no proactive settings row yet (typically a user who has never opened the setting in the app).
